Has Symantec changed it's internal culture to now push out products that support the latest server versions sooner than years AFTER the server OS has been released? Windows server was out in beta before it was released too. Not sure how Symantec couldn't have begun testing it. They are a Microsoft preferred partner so I'm sure they had access to the software to begin testing.
Its amazing Symantec, as huge as it is, that they are one of the last to support server I am so tired of companies like this embarrassing me with whom I work. At one point Symantec was the leader in Corporate backup solutions. However, now is not the case. Could it be because of the lack of vision and terrible support that had suffocated this juggernaut? I mean if Symantec could buy up more of the competition it wouldn't matter.
Then we could just stand in line for toilet paper and take it. So Symantec, thank you for wasting my time and more importantly my personal time off hours repeatedly oh and my family thanks you too! You know now is a good time to evaluate new products that support cloud deduplication along with backups, cloud restores and even DR. CommVault and EMC come to mind here More to follow. I bougth Backup Exec a few days ago to find out it was not compatible with Windows Storage Server Brand Representative for Retrospect, Inc.
If you have any other backup software installed, it could hide the tape drive from Retrospect, which loads it's driver when you launch the software and not during system startup. Personally I prefer Retrospect over BackupExec but for compatibility sake at least I tougth we bougth BackupExec because we already have another computer with BackupExec. I think the problem is specific to WSS No other backup softwares recognized the tape drive. It could probably be easly fixed but since BackupExec has been purchased I did not investigate further.
If you want to give Retrospect a try again, please email us at support retrospect. We can work with you directly to try and figure out why the tape drive isn't being seen by Retrospect. Chances are it is a driver conflict with something already installed. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting. Welcome to the Snap! I'm running a cable in a bar behind a sink so that an order printer can print orders where the Servers can pick them up.
But the run would have to go behind a sink and probably have to defy gravity on the bottom of the bar, which also goes behind a sink an Hypothetical scenario for discussion:OK, let's say I've got a Windows server that's bare metal. Chat is currently not available.

Brand Representative for Symantec. I'm part of the Backup Exec product management team. Currently, BE does not support Windows , but soon we are launching a beta program for the upcoming BE release. I would love the chance to talk to you about your experience and here your thoughts.
From there, I will send you my direct contact information. Matt Opens a new window. Got a small question - backup for would be supported but install on not.
Is that right? Although I truly appreciate you reaching out to me on this, I have to be honest in saying I don't feel comfortable participating in a Beta program for Backup Exec I have read countless reviews the last few days talking about BE , and I have to say, I did not see many good things being said about it. I've read nightmarish stories about people hating so much they had to uninstall it, then re-install , and rebuild all of their backup jobs.
I know there are a lot of people out there simply afraid of change, but I simply don't have the time to risk completely messing with our backup solution. It is unfortunate that Symantec didn't have a Server Agent ready the day Server was released to the public, because this really shouldn't even be an issue.
I haven't pulled the trigger on a new backup solution yet, but have been investigating. I've loved BE for the last 10 years and couldn't have imagined leaving it, but I have 2TB of data not being backed up because of this. It is purely unacceptable in my eyes as a customer. I pay the maintenance fees every year, but have never called support, and now when I truly need a newer version to support a newer server it is not available to me. I'll reach out to your personally if my end result is to stay with BE, but I have to be honest in saying this may not be the case.
You will be able to back up a server with the updated agent but you may not install you media server on That's still coming. This service pack will work on both BE and BE so you'll have a choice on how you want to proceed. Are you sure on the BE scenario? I would absolutely love to stay with BE, but have an agent that works on a Server box. Everything I've seen says BE R2 is what we are waiting for. I have not heard anything regarding supporting Server boxes. Matthew we've read all of the same comments you have and we're very focused on restoring the trust with our users.
The upgrade process was not seamless so we'll fix that. In the meantime we're getting support out for the latest in platforms on both BE and BE so you can make the choice of when you want to upgrade. The focus on quality is the absolute first priority and is already showing results. In late February we released a hotfix that has seen over 20, downloads with zero installation or functionality problems.
This service pack beta is intended to be very close to production-ready when we release it. I understand if this doesn't help you, but you should be more confident in this than a typical beta software release. Finally, I hope our candor can help you stick it out. We've changed a lot of things in the last nine months, including the CEO , and there is no questioning the focus on this product.
Follow us on Twitter or come to a Google Hangout to reach us directly. I would be interested in checking out the service pack beta if it allows me to stay on BE I just want to start getting the server box backed up, and can take a look at BE when I have more time. Also, thank you for taking the time to respond here. I always find it quite impressive when representatives from the company step up to help out the customer on these forums.
Glad we spoke. Check things out over here Opens a new window and sign up fast as it is getting full. Part of the intention for us to deliver in these service packs is a bridge for you to wait, get squared away on with the new 3rd party platforms as they come out, then seamlessly migrate up to when you are ready and we've addressed some of the concerns folks have raised. I'm signed up for the Beta, so I'll be sure to report back here how things go when I get my hands on it.
Thanks again Drew! Sorry to report guys, but the below message is what I got after signing up for the Beta.
